Hello dreamers! I am excited to announce our very first contest!
This will be a two-part contest, with prizes at both stages.
First we will share scenes from our dreams that we think would be cool as visual art! We will vote on which would be the most fun to draw (Part 1), and then we will draw that scene and vote on the best drawing (Part 2)!
Please find the details below.

:star: PART 1: SUBMIT YOUR DREAM SCENE (CLOSED)

To submit, comment here on this journal using this form:
(copy and paste and fill in your own details, deleting or replacing words in the <brackets>)

We will then vote on which Dream Scene would be the best subject matter for Part 2: the art contest. In other words, vote for the dream scene which you would most like to draw. You may vote for your own if you like.
</strike>

:star: PART 2: SUBMIT YOUR DREAM SCENE ART (CLOSED)

I will open an art folder for this contest. You will draw the 1st place scene from Part 1 and submit your art to that folder. Both digital art and traditional art will be accepted. Entries should, of course, be newly created specifically for this contest.

DRAW THIS DREAM: A game of hide and seek goes awry when you get chased through an endless aspen forest by a stag with white eyes and unhingeable jaws.

Congratulations to EvilSaintGood for winning Part 1. Their dream is now the prompt for this art contest. Please draw the above scene and submit your entry to the "Contest" folder by May 7th.
If you are working on an entry and need more time to finish, please note the group.
Please comment on this journal if you have any questions/concerns (after checking the FAQ below).

:bulletgreen: FAQ

What if I don't remember any of my dreams? Can I just make up a scene using my imagination? Or day-dreaming?
No, this is a small group with a very specific focus: real dreams you have while unconscious at night (lucid dreams are acceptable). If you do not remember your dreams, you can still fully participate in part 2 of this contest by drawing another person's dream!

May I submit more than one entry?
Since this is the first contest, let's keep it simple and limit it to one entry per person. This rule may change for future contests.

If your dream wins first prize for part 1, are you allowed to participate in part 2?
Yes!

Will the schedule be adjusted if there are not enough entries/votes?
I prefer not to alter the schedule due to my slight OCD (half-joke), but I will do whatever is best for the contest. If there are only two entries, that will not be fun, so I would extend the deadline in that case.

How will voting be conducted?
It depends on the number of entries. Most likely by poll. If you have a suggested method, feel free to comment about it here.

May I join this group just to participate in this contest and then leave the group afterward?
No, please do not do that. The purpose of this contest is to encourage active group membership.

Why 140 characters for the Dream Scene submissions?
The scene should be an art prompt, so it should be concise and lack enough detail to allow for some artistic interpretation. I chose 140 characters specifically because that's what Twitter chose, and I figure they knew what they were doing.

How can I easily count 140 characters?
I suggest: wordcounter.net  wordcounter.net/
Dear Dreamers,

As much as I want to see every dream right away and see this gallery grow exponentially, I'm worried that unlimited submissions could scare off new watchers/members.

Therefore, I'm tentatively instituting a global submission limit of 3 deviations per day, which is still quite permissive I think!

But please submit all your dreams even if you have to do it 3 at a time!

Comments welcome!

Sweet Dreams!

A cozy community to share the dreams (and nightmares) we have when we sleep. Submit visual art portraying a scene from the dream or literature describing the dream. This is a way to share these worlds that normally we can only inhabit alone.

We believe dreams are an ultimate source of uninhibited creativity!

Rules

:star:Submit only artwork describing scenes from your actual dreams (or nightmares).
This is a way for you to share your experience with others who would otherwise be unable to access your dream world.

:star:Be clear that your art depicts a dream.

:bulletgreen:Strongly Encouraged: Include the word dream or nightmare in the title of your art.
E.g. My Dream About Flying OR Flying (Dream)
This shows that you read the rules and understand you are only submitting art about your dreams.

:bulletgreen:Strongly Encouraged: Include a short description introducing the dream scene, giving it some context from your life, or interpreting its meaning.

:star:Global Submission Limit now 3 deviations per day.
It would be great to see all of your dreams and grow the gallery bigger quickly, but let's not scare off watchers with dozens of similar pieces in a row!

:star:Drawings, paintings, and literature are the focus of the group.
Photography is not permitted, even if you dreamt about the content of the photo. The point is to share a new world with others, not scenes from the "real" world that are accessible to all already. You never dream entirely photo-realistically, and your emotions can alter your perceptions as well, so you should describe or draw the scene as you experienced it rather than photographing something similar. Heavily manipulated photography may be accepted on a case-by-case basis.

:heart:Be nice! Have fun!

Hi kinglao! Could you please send me a link to the artwork in question? Then I will be happy to tell you the reason or let you know if it was a mistake on my part. Thanks!
